The overall goal of
TRAFFIC SAFETY LEBANON 2024 platform is to support the Lebanese government in implementing good practices to reduce deaths and injuries due to road traffic collisions.
In Lebanon, the overall road safety situation is poor. The actual number of casualties is high in relation to the number of inhabitants and motor
vehicle ownership, as compared to countries with good road safety records. The aim of Traffic Safety Lebanon is to identify and analyze road safety
problems in Lebanon and suggest solutions, strategies, and technologies to prevent/limit the number of accidents.
Men constitute some 78 percent of fatalities in Lebanon, with a third casualties aged between 18 and 29. Children between 0 and 14 account for 20 percent
of deaths, due largely to a lack of appropriate protection. Drivers make up the largest percentage of deaths, around 45 percent, and half of
all injuries. Pedestrians constitute 25 percent of the deaths and 15 percent of those injured in accidents.
